Gerontocracy / Samuel Moyn

Jul 1
I think we're embarked on an experiment, and it's never been tried, which is mass life extension. No one's really thought hard about the political consequences. My book is just an attempt to gather together what we know so far in one country about what it means for our politics intergenerationally to have so many more older people, absolutely and relatively. From what I can see, the outcomes are good and bad. It's great to have longer life. It also means that those who are old have more power, and probably more than they deserve.

Historian and legal scholar Samuel Moyn joins us to discuss his latest book from Macmillan, Gerontocracy in America: How the Old Are Hoarding Power and Wealth—and What to Do About It.

"Rotten History" from Renaldo Migaldi and "The Moment of Truth" with Jeff Dorchen both follow the interview.
