The templates for doing a good version of “crackup capitalism” are all predicated on really extreme, stratified versions of two classes of citizens. One set of citizens has access to all of the things that are good about being part of the state. The other non-citizens are treated as completely disposable.

Historian Quinn Slobodian joins This is Hell! to discuss his new book, Crack-Up Capitalism: Market Radicals and the Dream of a World Without Democracy. Quinn is the award-winning author of, Globalists: The End of Empire and the Birth of Neoliberalism, which has been translated into six languages. He is a professor of the history of ideas at Wellesley College.
