Depths of despair: The long shadow of COVID under capitalism.

Feb 8 2021
I don't believe that a viewpoint like the support of Medicare for All is radical, in that the majority of the population support it. It's not radical at all. It's mainstream in America, it's mainstream in much of the world - it's only politicans who label it 'radical' to make us think it's a fringe idea. The ideas that politicians promote - this bloated and dysfunctional healthcare system which rips people off and can't handle a pandemic, much less ordinary ailments we face - that, to me, is the radical position.

Cultural theorist Lynn Parramore on the deep social effects of economic precarity before, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, the urgent call for large-scale transformation of our poltiical and economic system, and her article Epidemic of Despair Could Haunt America Long After COVID at the Institute for New Economic Thinking.
