How School Integration Failed Black Students / Noliwe Rooks

Integrated classroom at anacostia high school

There’s a line that I have in the book by a writer named Kaisi Lehman, who is writing an autobiography about his life. He’s not writing about Brown [v. Board of Education], but this resonates with me that, “sometimes battles that you win end up hurting you more than battles that you've lost.” This is a battle that we won. In the wake of it, it's arguably hurt us more than if we had lost that that battle in 1954.

Noliwe Rooks returns to This Is Hell! to discuss her recent book, Integrated: How American Schools Failed Black Children from Penguin. "Rotten History" from Renaldo Migaldi follows the interview.
