Becca Lewis/How Technofacism is Rooted in Silicon Valley

President trump meets with mark zuckerberg 48765153148

Silicon Valley has issues with gender and race. I think the narrative has tended to be 'well, there's not enough diversity in tech and so there is a lot of implicit bias'. And instead, what I've found is that in addition to that, there also have been full formulated ideologies that explicitly reject feminism and racial equality, more socialist or left wing economic structures. And that ideology has played a major role in this as well. That people specifically belive that it should be these strong, powerful, and individual men running things.

Disinformation and far-right digital media scholar Becca Lewis, speaks with TIH! about her new piece in the Guardian, “‘Headed for technofascism’: the rightwing roots of Silicon Valley."

Becca served as an expert witness in the defamation lawsuits brought against Alex Jones by parents of Sandy Hook shooting victims. She is currently writing a book on the rise of reactionary politics in Silicon Valley and online.
