The Holocaust came to serve as Israel's nation building a new identity starting the 60s and becoming really institutionalized in the 1980s. And then you've had children being exposed to the Holocaust from a very young age, people being sent on school trips to the death camps in Europe, various memorials coming up all over the place, the idea that the next Holocaust is imminent and it's going to be committed by these Arab enemies who surround us on all sides. So you have a massive sort of shift in Israeli political psychology of making the Holocaust the main basis of Israeli identity.
