Manufacturing Dissent Since 1996
New interviews throughout the week

Jeff Dorchen devolves into his natural state – homo lethargis.

I had a dog who was usually bored. Occasionally he was scared, especially of fireworks. When his boredom was interrupted with something he could get excited about, he dutifully got excited. But at no time did he or his kind ever try to manipulate circumstances to permanently defeat what bored or terrified them.

Jeff Dorchen was too lazy to send me a description of his latest Moment of Truth this week. He was too busy doing nothing. Not building a canoe, not listening to Steven Pinker, not killing anyone, not thinking magically, not playing team-oriented party games – just aging and playing banjo with his friends. Is that progress? I’ll ask Jeff whenever he gets back to me.
