What we do with the ruins: On settler colonial violence in Sheikh Jarrah and beyond.

20210527sarahihmoud

We need to understand fundamentally that the conditions of Palestinians are really the conditions of an indigenous population facing an ongoing context of settler-colonialism. Israel is a colonial project that is predicated on the logic on native elimination - a project that aims to destroy native Palestinian life in order to replace it with a new settler entity, a project that is structural and continuous - not an event.

Anthropologist Sarah Ihmoud on the dynamics of colonialist violence and domination against indigenous people in Palestine and across the globe, connecting those struggles across borders, and her article Sheikh Jarrah: The Question Before Us for Jadaliyya.
