The Grotesque Old Pious

20200130jeffdorchen

Sometimes events conspire to bring the fact that what we think of as commonplace circumstances are actually fragile structures that can be broken by focused brutality. And, sometimes, all it takes is a night of violent gusts of wind, swirling and blowing, or “blirling” kind of weather, to make us see clearly the evil operating behind the scenes of supposedly polite, or politic, society. All is as glass, and can be shattered in a night. No one should ever wonder why we laugh when someone punches a Nazi. The opposite of the black pit of ancient evil? It’s joy. Joy is why we laugh.

In a Moment of Truth, Jeff Dorchen awakens one stormy afternoon and discovers the dark literary roots of America's ancient evil, and then the gibbering maw of America's very modern evil, just walking around in plain sight, ready to devour our souls for the old conservative gods.
