Jesus and John Wayne / Kristin Kobes Du Mez

One of the things that led to me writing this book that I had been tracking for a decade was the idea of this militant masculinity within conservative evangelicalism, long before Trump arrived on the scene. What I saw is over and over again was this pattern of abusive leaders, both promoting this ideology and then being supported by the good Christians in their churches and in their organizations, even when their abuse was revealed. I'm talking about sexual abuse and abuse of power.
